Rev. Dr. Willie Mae Hawkins exemplifies the struggles of a single parent.
Consequently, resurrending herself and her household to the Lord
transformed her life, not only by listening, but also by adhering to God's
voice. Now, twenty years later, Dr. Hawkins continues to dedicate her life to
God through service and missions. She shares this inspirational story in her
book, "She Builds a Vineyard: A Single Parent's Transformational Journey." This
modular autobiographical narrative, chronicles her struggles and
restoration, as a single parent.
Today, she is recognized as a servant of grace and compassion, as she
willingly uses her gifts of mentoring, coaching, counseling, teaching, and
preaching to strengthen others.

Dr. Hawkins is the founder and executive director of Spring, Inc., A National Single Parenting Ministry. Its
mission is ministering to strengthen single parents to be the best for themselves, their children, and the
Kingdom of God.As ordained clergy, she serves as an associate pastor at Maple Temple United Church of
Christ, Raleigh, NC, where she chaired the executive council board, women's ministry and the single parent
Chosen as a Regional Women's Ministry Consultant on the national level in the United Church of Christ
(UCC), her designated areas within Southern Region consisting of ten states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia,
Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Primarily, she serves
over 219 churches across North Carolina and eastern Virginia. She offers her gifts as a keynote, speaker,
lecturer, and workshop/seminar presenter. In addition, she serves as a columnist publishing monthly articles
in support of single parents. As a liaison and resource representative, she provides spiritual support for more
than 20,000 women.
Dr. Hawkins is a motivational speaker, consultant, life coach, and author. She is called upon to minister to
women, singles, parents, children of single parent homes, absent parents, and raising a male in the 21st
Century. She conducts and facilitates workshops, seminars, and conferences for churches and community
organizations to better advance God's Kingdom. Her servanthood includes: having served as an therapist in
mental health rendering counseling services to adults and children, an adjunct religion instructor, and a
hospital chaplain providing pastoral care and counseling.
In 2011 Dr. Hawkins was recipient the Single Parent of the Year Award by the National Coalition of 100 Black
Women (Triangle Chapter of Durham NC) for her dedication and commitment to enlightening, Inspiring and
empowering single mothers. In 2010, her efforts towards ministry for the single parent family was also noted in
Ebony magazine, one of the leading national African-American magazines.
She is a member of the NAACP, Licensed Professional Counselors Association of North Carolina, , National
Council of Negro Women and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She has 'earned' an A.A.S. in Business
Computer Programming from Nash Community College, Rocky Mount, NC; B.S. in Business Administration
from Barton College, Wilson, NC; a Masters of Divinity from Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology,
Virginia Union University, Richmond, VA.; and a Doctor of Ministry from Regent University, Virginia Beach, VA.
She is the proud parent of Willie Ray'von Hawkins.
When considering her call to labor in ministry, Willie Mae finds comfort in Exodus 33:14 "... My presence shall
be with thee and I shall give thee rest."
